Patriotic Gelatin Salad

My grand kids love gelatin, so when I saw this recipe for Patriotic Gelatin Salad by Taste of Home, I was excited to try it. I can tell you that it tastes as good as it looks. If you like gelatin, this is a recipe for you. I made a few minor tweaks, but I think they were improvements.

Because it takes about 30 minutes for each layer to set, it’s a little time consuming, but at the same time, it’s a simple recipe. It’s also versatile because you could change up the colors for different holidays.

How do you make a layered jello?
Grease a 10-inch tube pan with non-stick cooking spray.

After all the layers have been added, refrigerate for several hours or overnight, and get excited to reveal your gorgeous patriot gelatin salad.

When ready to serve, remove from fridge an allow to stand at room temperature for about 15 minutes.

Layered Jell-o salad

Patriotic Gelatin Salad

Ingredients
  

  • 1 package 6 ounces berry blue gelatin
  • 1 package 6 ounces strawberry gelatin
  • 4 cups boiling water divided in half
  • 2 ½ cups cold water divided
  • 2 envelopes .25 ounce each unflavored gelatin
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons clear vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Grease a 10-inch tube pan with cooking spray.
  • Combine blue gelatin with 2 cups boiling water, and whisk until completely dissolved. Add 1 cup cold water, and stir well. Pour half of blue mixture (1 ½ cups) into bottom of prepared pan, and chill for 30 minutes.
  • Combine unflavored gelatin packets with ½ cup cold water, and mix thoroughly. Allow to soften for 5 minutes.
  • Heat milk in a saucepan over medium heat until almost boiling. Remove from heat, and stir in sugar, softened gelatin, and vanilla extract. Whisk until sugar is completely dissolved. Stir in heavy cream, and set aside.
  • Combine strawberry gelatin with 2 cups boiling water, and whisk until completely dissolved. Add 1 cup cold water, and stir well. Set aside.
  • After first layer of blue gelatin has set for 30 minutes, gently spoon 1 ½ cups white gelatin mixture on top, and chill for 30 minutes.
  • Gently spoon 1 ½ cups strawberry gelatin over vanilla layer, and chill 30 minutes.
  • Repeat vanilla layer, blue layer, vanilla layer, red layer chilling 30 minutes between each. When all layers have been added, refrigerate several hours or overnight.
  • Carefully invert onto a serving plate, and enjoy.
